- Description
All images were taken at the centennial celebrations of whare nui Ngā Tau e Waru at Te Ore Ore marae, Masterton, on 22 March 1981. Many show men and women meeting with two forms of greeting visible, either hongi or hugs. Portions of the carvings on the whare nui are seen in the background. Some images are close-up head and shoulders views, including a man holding a microphone in his right hand, and a taiaha (long staff) in his left hand (frame 7); two women standing out in an open area, both wearing korowai (cloaks decorated with black twisted thrums) and raukura (feathered headdresses) (frame 8); and a woman in traditional Māori dress wearing a korowai, tipare (woven headdress), pari (woven bodice) and a pounamu (greenstone) pendant (frames 10 to 12). Unless otherwise stated, all persons are unidentified. Photographs taken by Ans Westra.
