New Zealand Polynesian Festival, 6-8 February 1981

Scenes at the Avondale Racecourse at the New Zealand Polynesian Festival, in February 1981. The first frames were taken looking up at spectators in the grandstand, focussing on a woman sitting beside a child wrapped in a blanket (frames 1 to 3); women in costume are performing on a stage, wearing costumes including piupiu (flax skirts), tipare (headbands) and pari (bodices), with poi attached to their waists (frames 4 to 6); several men and women and a child in mufti are singing and dancing (frame 7); other spectators are sitting in rows below the grandstand, including two women wearing tipare (woven headbands) in the front row (frames 8 to 11); and a man is sitting with his two children in his lap (frame 12).
