Description

Scenes at Waitangi, in 1981. Most images show numbers of men and women, Māori and Pākehā, demonstrating with banners and placards. They have arrived on the Treaty grounds at Waitangi, with placards which include "Maori control of Maori things" (frames 2 to 4) and a young Māori wearing a beret sitting on the ground beside the same placard (frame 6). A woman is talking to a man with a cap (possibly a Māori warden) with a row of police in the background preventing the protesters from going further (frames 8 to 10). A young woman is seen carrying the end of a banner which reads "[Aloha] Aina" (full text from previous images seen in reference number AW-2114). Unless otherwise stated, all persons are unidentified. Photographs taken by Ans Westra.
