- Description
Scenes near Waitangi, in 1981. Most images show numbers of men and women, Māori and Pākehā, demonstrating with banners and placards. They appear to be marching towards Waitangi, with banners which include "Waitangi. A day off or a rip off" [partially visible, full text from previous images at AW-2113], and "Feb 6th. Day of Shame". In many of the images the group is led by a woman wearing a large pendant (possibly a boar's tusk) (frames 1 to 6). She is calling into a megaphone (frames 3 to 6). Members of the police force are seen in frames 7 to 9. A woman is carrying a small puppy in a bag (frame 11), and in frame 12 the protest group is seen with the banners, megaphone and a placard which is partially visible "[Maori] control [of Maori] things" (full text from an image seen in reference number AW-2113). Unless otherwise stated, all persons are unidentified. Photographs taken by Ans Westra.
