Description

Scenes at Te Tii Marae, Waitangi, on Waitangi Day 1981. A number of people are gathered outside under a large banner which reads "Turn back to God". They are singing with one man playing the guitar (frames 1 to 4); a close-up of a woman wearing a straw hat (frame 5); people on the beach at Paihia harvesting seaweed (karengo) with a historic sailing ship "Tui" moored near the bridge between Waitangi and Paihia visible in the background (frames 6 & 7); later views on the beach show a couple of people wearing wetsuits (frames 8 & 11), and a large group sitting on the sand frame 12). Unless otherwise stated, all persons are unidentified. Photographs taken by Ans Westra.
