Māori men, women and children at Ratana

All views taken at Ratana during the annual celebration commemorating the birth of Tahupotiki Wiremu Ratana on January 25th. A woman is standing in front of an unidentified tombstone on which there are flowers set in glass globes (frame 1); a woman and children are tending the same grave in the Ratana cemetery (frames 2 to 4); a man and two women, all wearing the insignia of the Ratana church with the Whetū Mārama symbol (frames 5 & 6), the women with the veiled headdress of the Anahera Pono (the faithful angels); several women are sitting on a ledge around a monument in the cemetery with tombstones in the background including a large angel with outstetched wings (frames 7 to 10), with one of the women wearing the Whetū Mārama symbol on her dress, and another with a kete (woven flax basket) on her lap; a number of men, women and children are outside a building (frame 11); and a man is holding the hand of a small girl as they walk across an open space away from te Manuao, with crowds seen in the background (frame 12).
