All views taken at Ratana at the annual celebration commemorating the birth of Tahupotiki Wiremu Ratana on January 25th. Men, women and children are seen sitting in the sun in rows outside a building (frames 1 to 8). They include an older woman holding a kete (woven flax basket), wearing a headscarf (frames 1 & 2); another woman wearing sunglasses beside a woman with a bottle of drink holding it up for a young child (frames 4 to 7); two young men with a large transistor radio on the ground beside them (frame 9); three young people sitting on steps in the sun (frames 10 & 11); and several young people by a Holden car and a motor bike on the roadside (frame 12). Unless otherwise stated, all persons are unidentified. Photographs taken by Ans Westra.
