Description

All frames show people who are attending an event, possibly a poukai (Kīngitanga ceremony), at Tūrangawaewae (Identified from previous images at AW-1998 showing part of the wharenui). Ans Westra focusses on individuals and small groups of men, women and children, all seen inside a large hall. A woman, identified as Keri Kaa, is seen dancing and playing games with small children (frames 1 to 5 & 12); a man is sitting on a trestle table with a row of childrensitting on the floor below (frame 7); a young woman is wearing a woven flax tipare (headband) (frame 8); and a young man is standing beside a small child who is perched on a shelf. Unless otherwise stated, all persons are unidentified. Photographs taken by Ans Westra.
