- Description
All frames show people who are attending an event, possibly a poukai (Kīngitanga ceremony), at Tūrangawaewae (Identified from previous images at AW-1998 showing part of the wharenui). Ans Westra focusses on individuals and small groups of men, women and children, all seen inside a large hall. A young woman is wearing a woven flax tipare (headband) (frame 1); a woman, identified as Keri Kaa, is seen with small children (frames 2 & 3); an older woman is wearing a pounamu roimata (greenstone teardrop) pendant (frames 4 to 7); and women and children are seen lying on mattresses on the floor (frames 8 to 12). Unless otherwise stated, all persons are unidentified. Photographs taken by Ans Westra.
