- Description
All images show Māori men, women and children possibly at a poukai (Kīngitanga ceremony) at Tūrangawaewae (Identified from previous images at AW-1998 showing part of the wharenui). A young man is leaning against a wall with a child sitting on his shoulders and another child on the ground at his feet (frame 1); an older woman is wearing a hei tiki partially hidden under her crochet poncho and she is carrying a very finely woven kete (frame 4); most of the rest show a women's netball team, with the women gathering together, cutting their nails, and then in frame 11 they are seen playing in a match on a large court. A man wearing a t'shirt which reads "Star Hotel. Kawakawa. Northland, N.Z." and headphones is seen in frame 10. Unless otherwise stated, all persons are unidentified. Photographs taken by Ans Westra.
