Description

All images show Māori men, women and children possibly at a poukai (Kīngitanga ceremony) at Tūrangawaewae Marae. Several young people are sitting by the carved poupou in the entrance porch of the wharenui (frames 1 to 4); four older women are walking with a small child past a building with punga wood (cyathea dealbata) walls (frame 5); a large crowd is standing in the forecourt of the wharenui, the building partly hidden behind a tree (frame 7); five young boys and a toddler are on the bonnet of a large car (frame 10); and a woman is wearing a cap with insignia W K C and a logo on her jacket reading "Whakatu Karate Club" (frame 12). Unless otherwise stated, all persons are unidentified. Photographs taken by Ans Westra.
