- Description
All frames taken at the opening of the Pipitea Marae on 31st May 1980. They show close-up views of Māori attending the opening. An older woman (kuia) wearing a piupiu (flax skirt) under a kahu kiwi (cloak adorned with kiwi feathers) is seen in frames 4 to 8. She is also wearing a large hei tiki (visible in frame 8). Frames 11 & 12 show a number of people wearing traditional Māori clothes including one woman wearing a korowai (cloak with twist black thrums). The woman on the left in frames 11 & 12 has a moko kauwae (chin tattoo). Unless otherwise stated, all persons are unidentified. Photographs taken by Ans Westra.
