- Description
All frames taken in the vicinity of the St George Hotel, Boulcott Street, Wellington. After the announcement in April 1980 that there would be a Springbok rugby tour to New Zealand in 1981 various anti-tour groups such as HART (Halt All Racist Tours) started protesting. Frames one and two show two African men sitting on a bench seat at Perretts Corner, across the road from a demonstration outside the Hotel St George. Frame three is looking across at the corner of Boulcott and Willis Streets showing the large group of protesters outside the hotel with their placards, and a policeman keeping watch. Frames 4 to 12 are close-up views of people involved in the demonstration. Placards include "81 No Tour"; "60-Shar'ville 76-Soweto 81- ?"; " Craven's rugby not cricket"; "N.Z.R.E.U. $$$ from Apartheid"; and "Stop the '81 Tour". Unless otherwise stated, all persons are unidentified. Photographs taken by Ans Westra.
