Description

All images taken on an open day in the grounds of Homewood, the residence of the British high commissioner in 1980. In frame one Sir Harold Smedley is seen talking to a Māori woman who is holding several poi and she has an armful of rākau sticks for playing stick games. She is wearing a piupiu (flax skirt), pari (bodice). Ans Westra has focussed on a number of women chatting in the garden (frames 2 to 8); a Māori man is standing at a table with a spinning wheel for winning prizes (frame 9); and people are manning stalls (frames 10-12). Unless otherwise stated, all persons are unidentified. Photographs taken by Ans Westra.
