- Description
All images taken on an open day in the grounds of Homewood, the residence of the British high commissioner in 1980. A group of women and children (members of Ngāti Poneke Māori Club?) in costumes are performing an action song on the lawn (frames 1 to 6). They are wearing piupiu (flax skirts), pari (bodices) and tipare (head bands), and have poi attached to their waists. Several older women in street clothes have joined in with the singing and dancing. The British High Commissioner and his wife (Sir Harold Smedley and Lady Beryl Smedley) are seen in frame 7, with Lady Beryl Smedley seen talking to a Māori woman in frames 8 to 12. Unless otherwise stated, all persons are unidentified. Photographs taken by Ans Westra.
