All scenes taken during the opening of Hoani Waititi Marae, the urban pan-tribal marae in Glen Eden, Auckland in April 1980. Ans Westra has focussed on individuals or small groups who are attending the event. Two women are sitting at a table playing cards, with others watching over their shoulders (frames 1 to 7); and people are seated in a marquee with tables filled with food and drink (hākari. Frames 10 to 12). Unless otherwise stated, all persons are unidentified. Photographs taken by Ans Westra.
