Description

All scenes relate to the General Strike held in Wellington on 20th September 1979, while Prime Minister Robert Muldoon was in power. A dense crowd is seen behind barriers manned by a tight line of policemen, below Parliament Buildings. The Parliamentary Library building is seen in the background (frames 1 to 3); large banners are being held up at the front of the protesting crowd (frames 1 to 5 & 9); and close-up views of people hanging over the barricades, a police woman and a policeman are seen in frames 6 to 12. Unless otherwise stated, all persons are unidentified. Photographs taken by Ans Westra.
