- Description
All scenes relate to the General Strike held in Wellington on 20th September 1979. They show people standing in an unidentifiable street (possibly at the Railway Statiion) prior to going to Parliament. There are two older pakeha women wearing head scarves (frames 1 to 3). Then a large group of demonstrators are seen walking up over the lawn towards Parliament (frames 4 to 6, & 9). Some are bearing placards, including "Fight Social Welfare cuts" and "Wage war on rising prices". It was a wet day with people wearing rain jackets, plastic head scarves and umbrellas. Some views show people in close-up, including individual women (frames 8, 9 & 10 to 12; one of whom is reading a paper on which one can read "Sure there's an economic crisis, but whose crisis?). Unless otherwise stated, all persons are unidentified. Photographs taken by Ans Westra.
