- Description
All images taken at the Dowse Art Gallery, Lower Hutt, during the opening of an exhibition of a major series of works on Parihaka by Selwyn Muru. All scenes were taken inside the gallery with the space becoming a marae, so people are seated on the floor, socialising and listening to speeches. Those identified include Selwyn Muru (frames 1 & 2, 5 to 8, and 10-11); Ngahina Okeroa (frame 1); Marjorie Rau-Kupa (frames 1 & 2, 7 & 8, 10 & 11); Whetu Tirikatene-Sullivan (frames 4 to 6 & 9) and Maarire Goodall (frames 6, 7 & 9). A number of women are wearing Raukura feathers (of Taranaki/Te Ati Awa). Unless otherwise stated, all persons are unidentified. Photographs taken by Ans Westra.
