- Description
All frames taken in Wellington during the Commonwealth tour celebrating Queen Elizabeth II's Silver Jubilee. Frames 1 to 9 show people, men, women and children waiting for the arrival of the Queen near the Wellington Town Hall. Many are holding "Welcome" flags. An older woman wearing a white sunhat in frames 10 & 11 is standing in front of a group protesting about the monarchy, and demanding the withdrawal of British troops from Ireland. Another woman (frame 12) waving "Welcome" flags" is also seen in front of the protesters. They are holding placards reading "British killers out of Ireland"; "Ireland for the Irish"; "Monarchy: Political tyranny at the tax payers' expense"; and "For peace ...[?] British troops out". Unless otherwise stated, all persons are unidentified. Photographs taken by Ans Westra.
