- Description
Frames one to ten are all related to a huge protest by the Wellington Trades Council, with about 12,000 workers demonstrating against wage controls and the fall in living standards. Held in Parliament grounds in June 1976. [See internet: . Page 206 in the book "A history of Trade Unions in New Zealand" by Peter Franks (Victoria University Press. 2001).] Several of the images are close-up portraits of particpants; others show women and children amongst the crowd; and placards include "Prices up, wages down"; "Fight the freeze"; "Restore free bargaining"; and "We are sick of being Robbed". Frames 11 & 12 are portraits of Lisa van Hulst when a three-year old. Unless otherwise stated, all persons are unidentified. Photographs taken by Ans Westra.
