- Description
Celebrations for the 1976, 28th Māori Battalion, 10th National Reunion at Te Poho-o-Rāwiri. Held at Easter weekend 1976. Frames one & two were taken inside the wharenui, showing people resting on mattresses. Frames 3 to 12 were possibly taken in a large community hall in Gisborne. Frames 6 to 9 show a group of kuia performing a dance and song; a large number are watching the performance (frame 10); and a young man is sitting on his wife's knee (frames 4 & 5). Composer, singer, teacher Ngoi Pewhairangi has been identified, performing in frames 6, 8 & 11 (wearing a long light-coloured coat over a traditionally patterned dress). A man is performing with the women in frame 12, with another man behind him in a wheelchair watching. Unless otherwise stated, all persons are unidentified. Photographs taken by Ans Westra.
