All frames show a huge crowd of members of various trade unions, and onlookers, at a protest during a 24 hour work stoppage called by the Trades Council. It affected journalists, printers, bus drivers, hotel workers, boilermakers, drivers, seamen and waterside workers. Various placards and flags read ""Wellington Teachers College Students Association;" "Take out the dagger Kirk; "Defend right to organise trade unionism;" and "Waterside Workers' Union;" and "Trade unions defend democracy.
