Description

View of a number of tents in varying sizes. Hutton writes: 'Our encampment. Another collegian vicissitude. The large school[?] tent at the bottom was presented to the Bishop by Mr Cotton's father. It was at first used as a church but since the opening of the Tamaki church, St Thomas', it has been used as a school room and sleeping place for the Maori boys. The next largest tent in the foreground is Mr Cotton's, placed like a hen to watch over her little ones, which flank it on each side; on the right are Mr Fisher and W. Davis, who have constructed a sort of verandah in front of it. Mr White's, who had also made a verandah but which was accidentally burnt down (48). On the other side are Tudor's our new student from England. My own with a verandah or Maori shed - and the two Hamblins.'
