Description

Family photographs collected or inherited by Clark, taken by mainly unidentified photographers between circa 1880 and 1944. Identified photographers include "G. McGrath, Her Majesty's Arcade, Sydney", Peter Pan Photos (Karangahape Rd, Auckland), and Valerie Studios (Wellington). Some images have annotations on the reverse.

Features various extended family members including Clark's mother Ivy Clark (nee Martis), Ivy Clark's mother Harriet Martis (nee Suckling), Harriet Martis' siblings Alfred Charles Martis, “Harry (L) and Ben (R)", and Harriet Martis' father Charles Suckling [1880s or 1890s?]. Also Ivy Clark's siblings and their children. One image shows an unidentified woman and baby [possibly Harriet Martis with baby Ivy? circa 1895?]. Other people identified by first name only include Ron, Ben, Hilda, Harry.

Many images show Dorothy Martis as a child and adult, one in her nurse uniform. Other images show Dorothy, Ivy, and Felicity Martis as adults, posed in a garden, in front of a house (with a dog), and with other unidentified people. Also contains photographs of Felicity Martis and Gerald Gray on their wedding day, Dorothy Martis and Ray [?] on their wedding day, and a wedding of another unidentified couple. There is also an unidentified wedding group portrait with inscription “Woman in back row with glasses on - Mrs Spencer from A M P Sydney, met her on the ship”.

Also includes an exterior view of an unidentified wooden church, grave of Alfred Charles Martis, grave of Hira Forsyth ("wife of Samuel Forsyth, died 1939 aged 59 years") and a newspaper photo [1932?] of the olympian Thelma Irion.

Thelma Irion nee Kench's parents were Hilda Florence Martis and Sam Kench, making her Judith Clark’s cousin.
