Description: Photographs of hydroelectric power plants on the Waikato River, at Ohakuri, Waipapa and Aratiatia. Other photographs show the permanent villages at Maraitai and Wairakei, and in particular the community halls built for those villages. The photographs were taken ca 1963 by a Ministry of Works staff photographer. Also included are photographs of Aratiatia power station taken by Rod Cook. Collection also includes aerial photographs of Auckland taken during World War II by an unknown photographer. Source of title - Title supplied by Library Some of these photographs were progress photographs to send to the Head Office Hydro Design in Wellington, but most were taken for a display of Government architectural design work. The Ministry of Works operational centre was at Mangakino, with later a construction group at Aratiatia. Rodney Cook was project architect at Mangakino and then Aratiatia from 1961 to 1964. Description: Photographs chiefly relating to engineering projects, but also four prints of Hikurangi Swamp in flood, 4 April 1968. All images taken by Ray Ryan. Comprises: -Photographic prints and negatives (some, possibly all, correspond to the prints) relating to the the construction of Ohakuri hydroelectric power station and dam on the Waikato River. Photographer, Ray S Ryan, was working on the site. Images show construction sites and waterways (probably Waikato River). -Photographic prints, and corresponding negatives, of the tunnel boring machine at the east portal of the Kaimai Railway Tunnel, taken circa 1971. Source of title - Title supplied by Library Mr Ryan worked on the site for Downer Construction, who had the contract from the Ministry of Works to excavate the spillway.
