Images show roading gang on a break while working on a road towards Ruatoria, also, scenes of the house where the story 'Washday at the Pa' originated, taken in 1963 by Ans Westra. Unless otherwise stated all persons are unidentified.
More than half of the images show a roading gang taking a roadside break. The remaining images show a woman with children in the doorway of a house, which was the venue for the school bulletin 'Washday at the Pa', including Frame 9 that was used for the cover.
Some of the images in the set AWM-0582 to AWM-0602 were published in 'Washday at the Pa'.
