Description

Interviews about leading New Zealand potter, art teacher and painter, Yvonne Rust, conducted by Patsy Deverall in 1998. Three interviews with Yvonne Rust describe the Northland Craft Trust, beginnings of her pottery and pottery on the West Coast. Four interviews are with people who knew her as apprentices or students. Subjects include learning to pot, development of pottery in New Zealand from the 1940s-1990s, the nature of art, teaching art at high schools, night classes and pottery schools, sourcing West Coast clay and glazes, developing kilns and studios, and artists of the time such as Barry Brickell, Olivia Spencer Bower, Theo Schoon, Mirek Smisek and Japanese master potter Hamada
