Oral history interview with Alben Burney, born 8th April, 1922 in Christchurch. Mentions milking in Kaikoura in his youth. Recalls his brief war experience - mentions the 14th Regiment. Discusses meeting his wife Ruth. Talks about mustering at Clarence Reserve and Rata Downs Station near Cheviot. Details the differences between mustering and shepherding. Describes starting work at Molesworth Station, Hanmer Springs - recalls the number of sheep he mustered. Talks about moving to Feilding. Discusses finding work after World War II - mentions Borthwicks and Harry Ferguson. Talks about working on Henshaw's farm in Kimbolton.
Discusses beginning as a drover in the 1950s - recalls the journey of moving stock. Recounts his memories of other drovers he worked with - mentions Kit, Bob Dagg, Charlie Sundgren, Linc Campbell, Len Stevens, and Keith and Huia Sowerby. Details the types of dogs he worked. Explains various commands and whistles. Recounts how drovers were percieved at the time - talks about the hours of work. Explains his work in the sales yards and the Friday sales.
