Janet Gladys Moore born Lincoln (NZ), eldest of four. Recalls father being doctor for the whole district. Talks about schooling at Rangi Ruru, a private Anglican school under Miss Gibson. Discusses WWII and decision to work in Wellington Hospital with VAD (Voluntary Aid Detachment). Describes work and refers to prostitutes and miscarriages. Recalls travelling overseas on the hospital ship, the `Maunganui'. Mentions Edith Lewis (Matron), Dr Bill Gordon, Doris Gordon, Kath Coldicutt (Dr from Auckland), Bop Webster, Zona Hart, Alicia van Dongen (WAAC nurse), Charlie Pettit (Ship's engineer) and Margaret Jenkins. Describes duties on board ship. Recalls work in tent hospital in the desert, marriage in Cairo with reception in the Cairo Club, becoming pregnant and returning on the `Wanganella' an Australian hospital ship in 1944.
