Description

Louisa May Tuhura describes her parents, grandparents and childhood in Horoera. Recalls how they procured food from the bush and surrounding sea. Also describes how they fished for eels. Recalls being a keen hockey player and learning much about haka in her earlier days from Henare Te Ao Wai, Te Kurumare and Heni Waimutu at Rongohaere Marae. Explains how different people from her hapu were sent amongst Nga Puhi by Apirana Ngata to teach them skills they had acquired. Talks about the death of Materoa Reedy. Ends the interview by describing Tuni Ngawai's style of teaching.
