Ngaroimata Reiha Ruhe-Hodge is interviewed about her mother, Roimata Ruhe, one of the Maori women involved with the Maori-Aboriginal Family Education Centre oral history project who died before she was interviewed.
Discusses her mother's upbringing in Kaikohe and becoming a teacher's aide at Te Ahu Ahu. Describes her mother's work in Australia in Maori-Aboriginal Family Education Centres, the support of their local community in helping them get there and the beneficial effect the Australian trip had on their family. Comments on her mother's role as a Playcentre liaison officer, a volunteer in kohanga reo and in setting up a pilot scheme for libraries in Taitokerau. Mentions her mother was kohanga reo representative for Taitokerau on the Te Kohanga Trust. Discusses her ability to move in both Maori and Pakeha worlds. Comments on the importance of early childhood education.
