Don Jamison, Harbourmaster Marlborough Board from 1 August 1970 to 1 April 1991, recalls the first marine farming - two large rafts in an unnamed bay south of St Omer in Kenepuru, belonging to Associated Fishermen, Nelson. Mentions Dr Richard Pike, Victoria University, who was involved in Fisheries Management Division and using AF farms in research. Also mentions Ed. Slack (who replaced Dr Pike) and Phillip Tortell. Discusses Marine Farming Act which allowed MAF to approve a marine farm anywhere, harbour waters or not. Recalls working closely with Nick Jarman, Jim Jenkins and John Meredyth Young.
