These recordings were made as source material for the written biography `Dr Golan Maaka : Maori doctor' (1995). Dr Maaka practised medicine in the Whakatāne district for 35 years and combined Pākehā and traditional Māori medical practices. He also did medical rounds in the Ureweras.
