Sister Pauline Dwyer recalls commencing nursing in 1943 with Sister Matthew, and Sisters Henrietta and John, two SMSM sisters (Missionary Sisters of the Society of Mary). Describes the lecture study which was a corridor linking the Home to the convent. Gives impressions of Sr Kevin who was tutor as well as matron. Recalls Sister Luke who took over training from Sr Kevin. Talks about Dr Burns (later Sir Charles Burns) who was the Hospital Superintendent and came each Saturday morning with a group of students from Public Hospital. Explains how this was a time of great learning. Recalls 10 years spent at Aubert Home of Compassion, Wanganui, nursing elderly people; experience with Maori children - teaching catechism at Upukanaro; going to camps with Mr Provost and visiting the gaol with a man from St Vincent De Paul Society.
