Description

Archdeacon James Young recalls his experiences, as chaplain appointed by the National Council of Churches, amongst the war refugees who arrived in Pahiatua (over the hills from Palmerston North) on 27 June 1949 - "They were a strange and extraordinary collection of people - about one thousand from Europe - part of the driftwood from that terrible storm of World War II."
