Lawrence Nathan was born 18 April 1910 in Auckland. Details his family background, childhood and education. Describes his career with the family firm of L D Nathan and Co Ltd, starting as an office boy in 1928, director in 1935, chairman/managing director 1944 and retirement from the board in 1980. Discusses his Jewish background, anti-Semitism, family's long association with New Zealand, involvement in Jewish and Auckland civic affairs. Talks about the changes in the company through the years.
