Interview with Tsuneyo Page

Tsuneyo Page was born in Manchuria in 1932 where her father was a Japanese Government official during the occupation of Manchuria. Describes the Chinese communist takeover after World War II when her father was executed and her family suffered many hardships. These led to the death of a brother and her mother and the hospitalisation of the rest of the family on their return to Japan in 1949. Describes living with her uncle before working as a waitress in a neighbouring town where she met her husband, a New Zealand K Force soldier. Discusses her family's attitude to marrying a foreigner and the army's attitude. Recalls arriving in New Zealand and going to Feilding, local attitudes and difficulties socialising. Talks about her jobs, children, feelings about Japan and changing New Zealand attitudes.
