Structured life history interviews with longterm residents of the Wairarapa town of Martinborough. The object of the project was to gather first hand accounts of living in a small rural town in NZ in the first part of the twentieth century.

This was a pilot project as research and preparation for establishing a national oral history archive. Martinborough was selected for a number of reasons including the interviewers' personal association with the town, its size - population 1357, and the celebration of its centenary in 1982.
