Scenes from the Gear Meat Works Hostel, Petone, Lower Hutt, taken in 1962 by Ans Westra. Unless otherwise stated all persons are unidentified.
Images show scenes from within the Gear Meat Works Hostel.
Images consist of:
- A group of men standing in a kitchen.
- Frame four shows, from left to right, Greg Howaerth, Johnnie Henderson, Jack Cooper, Jack Po, Ben Ngata and Bobby Wilson. They are all on arm chairs in the hostels sitting room.
- Frame 9-10 shows Melvin King lying in his hostel room reading a book.
- A young man sitting in his hostel room looking at a vinyl record.

Most of the workers who lived in the hostel were seasonal and under the age of 21.
