Specifications for Congregational Church, Wellington, by B W Mountfort, architect, dated 1888.

Manuscript in two sections:

- 'Specification - Congregational Church Wellington - B W Mountfort, Architect, Christchurch' - manuscript of 33 loose leaves. This is the main document comprising "Specification and Conditions for the execution of Works in the erection of Congregational Church at the corner of Wellington Terrace & Bowen St Wellington N.Z.". Provides full details of the proposed project for the purposes of a tender process and to form the basis for an agreement with a contractor. Includes sections describing requirements for 'General Labour' - including site clearing, 'Drainage', 'Foundations' - including concrete work, and 'Carpenter' - including timber specifications for flooring, windows, partitions and wall coverings. Details of the roof are described, including 'The Large Cross Roof' and 'Small Cross Roofs', with illustrative pen and ink drawings in the margins. Provides exact specifications for all materials to be used including corrugated galvanised iron and Cumberland or Welsh slates secured with copper nails, and slates of two colours for the turret. Windows to be glazed with 'rolled cathedral glass of two or more tints'. Also gives specifications for the painters and smith, before concluding with some general conditions of the contract.

- 'Specification Gas Fittings Congregational Church, Wellington', manuscript on five loose leaves, with the final page in the form of a contractual agreement. Contract dated Wellington, 30 April 1888, is signed by the Wellington plumber John Edward Hayes, witnessed by B Smith, a Wellington estate agent, and features a fiscally used one shilling Queen Victoria Second Sideface postage and revenue stamp (issued 1882) annotated "J. E. H. 2/4/88".
