Shows a rudimentary hospital building , built into a hill on what appears to be two levels. A white flag with a red cross top right indicates it is a medical building
Inscriptions: Recto - bottom right - Chalk Pit [in pencil]; Verso - top left - Weeks O'Connor [studio stamp]
Possibly painted in the first half of 1916, around the time of two gas cloud attacks by the Germans on the British troops at Hulluch, in northern France, in April of that year
