Description

Colour transparencies of birdlife, sailing, and local scenes taken by James (Jim) Watt in Chile during the Totorore Expedition, Jul-Dec 1983, and the building of the boat 'Totorore' in 1982.

Set shows the 'Totorore' under construction at Homelands Orchard in Kerikeri, with slides including the yacht in a shed surrounded by building supplies and the fitting of the mast. The remainder of the images are in Chile. Valparaiso photographs show a statue of St Peter, the 'Totorore' moored next to a sewerage outlet. Valdiva scenes include stores on the beach,a japonica bush, fog, houses (some derelict), and the town centre. Birds include black vultures "Jote" in Valdivia and a grey gull "garuma" in Valparaiso.

Inscriptions: Notes from depositor read: "'Totorore' under construction 1982" and "Jim joined 'Totorore' at Valparaiso (flew into Santiago) 1983."
