View across the lake, with Mokoia Island in the background, beyond a headland. A family group of four Maori are seated and standing on the near shore, watching three large waka crossing the lake. The group includes a woman with a baby inside her cloak on her back. Cabbage trees and other trees on both sides.
Likely to date from 1841, when Merrett travelled to Taupo and Rotorua with Ernst Dieffenbach. There is a very similar drawing in Dieffenbach's album from the period
