Description

Photographs relating to the construction of the Cobb Dam, Tasman Region, taken circa 1940s-1950s by Mr Reginald Pearless, from Nelson, who worked as an an engineer on the dam.

Images feature construction scenes on the banks of the Cobb River. Includes workers and others associated with the construction of the dam, workers' camps, machinery, bridges, a cable railway (which includes images of tracks being constructed and associated equipment, including a winding drum), trees, and mountains. Some images include captions including 'Old steam shovel from [?] and now at Takaka', 'Road to Power House', 'Pipe line', and 'July 2nd camp, Cobb River' (featuring Judy Pearless, daughter of Reginald Pearless, as identified by the donor). Some images include the river in flood, and also wider shots of the river valley.
