Description

Photographs of performances at Downstage Theatre, selected and framed by the Downstage Theatre Society for display in Downstage Theatre. Taken between 1965 and 2013 by Glen Morris, Brian Davies, Terence Taylor, and other unidentified photographers.

Includes images from productions (listed below by decade):

- 'Purgatory and poetry', 'Happy Days', and 'Bartholowmew Fayre' (1965); 'The Homecoming', and 'Stop me if you've heard it' (1966); and 'Hamlet' and 'Luv' (1967).

- 'The importance of being earnest' (1972); 'As you like it' (1973); 'Happy days' (1975); 'Absurd person singular' (1976); 'Ashes' (1977); 'Candide' and 'Heros and butterflies' (1978); and 'Design for living' and 'Macbeth' (1979).

- 'Palace of varieties' (1980); 'Hay Fever' (1981); 'The rivals' (1982); 'Shuriken' (1983); 'Wednesday to come' (1984); 'The life of Galileo' and 'Steaming' (1985); 'A street car named desire' (1986); 'Judy' (1988); and 'Aunt Daisy' and 'The house of Bernada Alba' (1989).

- 'Hedda Gabler' and 'Macbeth' (1990); 'Foreskin's lament' (1991); 'Death and the maiden (1992); 'Glengarry Glen Ross' (1993); 'She stoops to conquer' (1995); and 'The visit' (1996).

- 'The intricate art of actually caring' (2012); and 'Perfectly wasted' (2013).

Also accompanied by a typescript note in a frame explaining the aim of the display to create a pictorial history of Downstage performing in three different venues, with each year of operation represented. The note acknowledges those who have donated photographs and curated the collection, also requests further donations to this collection. Another unframed note invites people to share stories on Facebook or eStage relating to the 50 years of Downstage history.

Arrangement: The photographs at PAColl-D-1417 to PAColl-D-1433 are also part of this series of photographs, they were separated for storage due to differing sizes.
