Description

Further manuscript accounts of the New Zealand Wars by Private John P Ward. Handwritten accounts on the New Zealand Wars 1860s and 1870s. Includes accounts of Whitmore's Taranaki campaign, Titokowaru, and the search for Te Kooti in the Gisborne area after his escape from the Chatham Islands in 1868. Also a comic ballad written by John P Ward called `Paddy Doyle's Lamint' which is set during the Taranaki War, and is written in an Irish `dialect'. Some of the drafts may be typescript copies or annotated copies of previous acquisitions.

Also includes `The battle of the double crossing: A blood curdling, yet true account of an incident in the Taupo Campaign of 1870' written by John P Ward.
