Description

Mounted images with annotations from Albert Armitage Salmon's 1936-1937 trip to New Zealand. The images follow the route of Salmon and his companions' travels tramping and travelling through the South Island. Photographs taken by Salmon.

- The bulk of the images show South Island scenery, particularly Milford Sound and nearby mountains, and Tasman Glacier. Includes images of Sutherland Falls, Lake Ada, the Cleddau Valley, the Darran Range, Barren Peak, Sheerdown Peak, views of Milford Sound, Mitre Peak, The Lion, Mount Pembroke, Bowen Falls, Anita Bay, Lake Te Anau, the Remarkables and Lake Wakatipu in Queenstown, Mount Sefton, Tasman Glacier, Mount Haidinger, Mount Haast, Silberhorn, Mount Tasman, the Hochstetter ice fall, Mount Cook (Aoraki), rock formations in West Canterbury, the Raikaia Gorge, and aerial views of Franz Josef Glacier and the Waiho River.

- Several images show Irene Booth, Reg Booth, Mary Hansen, and Eric Keehn tramping through glaciers with Scottish guide, Duncan Darroch, who is wearing a kilt. One image shows Keehn amongst foxglove plants in bloom at Milford Sound.
