Description

Shows two press reporters looking for story ideas and responding to a newspaper headline 'Ryder Attacked', with one asking "How dare those cowards kick Jesse when he's down?" and the other replying "That's our job." The cartoonist has noted the irony of the change in press coverage: 'It's been incredible to watch how quickly opinions changed immediately following his attack.' Refers to the media vilification of the New Zealand Cricket player Jessie Ryder and his decision to step down from international cricket owing to personal issues and an earlier formal stand-down for breaching team protocol around alcohol. Also refers to the extensive media coverage following an attack on Ryder at a bar in Merivale, Christchurch, in March 2012 that left the sportsman in a coma.

Toby Morris was a runner-up in the New Zealand Cartoon Archive and the Listener's Young Cartoonist Competition in 2013
