Description

Photographs chiefly relating to Jeanne Gibson Marshall (later Ferguson) as a young woman in the 1930s and 1940s when she was studying music at Canterbury University College, Christchurch, taken by a range of photographers.

Includes a group of school students (possibly examination or competition participants) many holding violins or rolled up certificates; the Sumner basketball team and Sumner tennis club; group and individual photographs taken at Jeanne's graduation in 1939 showing women and men in academic dress outside buildings at the Canterbury University College, the women carrying bouquets of flowers, and the majority of men in uniform; two photographs from an album, both taken in 1939, of musicians standing on the steps of a building, probably in Christchurch - the New Zealand-born violinist Alan Loveday, aged 11, and the Austrian pianist Paul Schramm, who arrived in New Zealand in 1938.

Also includes a group photograph of Army Headquarters' employees (in civilian clothes), possibly records staff, Wellington, ca 1946, including Women's Army Auxiliary Corps sergeant Marie Louise Hart (later Philpott).
